Lately, I’ve been on a huge skincare kick, especially after  my recent pregnancy. My skin has definitely changed due to all of the fluctuating pregnancy and post-pregnancy  hormones.  Shortly after my pregnancy, I noticed my skin was unpleasantly dry. This was very surprising to me because my skin is usually unbearably oily. I decided to look for a mask to add to my “super simple” skincare routine. I went to my local ULTA  and found the Shea Moisture African Black Soap Clarifying Mud Mask. I decided to go with Shea Moisture skin care products because I am very familiar with the brand and love using their hair care products in my natural hair. I also like that  it is made with natural and certified organic ingredients.

Product Claims (according to sheamoisture.com)

My Experience & Thoughts

I incorporated this mask once a week in my skincare regimen. The mask had the usual “mud mask” scent. I applied a thin layer of the mud mask with my fingers. It was very smooth and when applied it felt very cooling on the skin. I left the mask on for the recommended time which was 10 minutes. It doesn’t dry down extremely hard. It is very comfortable on the skin when dry. I removed it with a damp cloth. When removing the mask I made sure to pat lightly until it was all removed. I rinsed my skin with cool water after all of the product was removed.

I really enjoyed using this mask on my skin and I am pleased with the overall results. I definitely saw improvement in my skin. After each use, my skin immediately was brighter and it felt refreshed and smooth. After many uses, my skin began to balance out. It wasn’t  too dry or oily. I still get oily in my t-zone area, but I noticed a tremendous difference on the rest of my face. I had many blemishes after my pregnancy, and this product along with my skincare regimen has faded those blemishes and left my skin softer and smoother. I genuinely would recommend this product.

I will continue to use this mask and in the future, I do plan on trying out other  masks in the Shea Moisture skincare line.
