Tear-Free Toddler Natural Hair Wash Day Must-Haves

by | Jul 28, 2020 | Motherhood, Natural Hair

As a baby, Mackenzie’s natural hair wash day used to be very simple, because she hardly had any hair! Now that she is in her toddler phase, her hair is growing and growing fast. When she was a baby her hair was straight, and she barely had any curls. Now her curls have started to develop so I definitely had to change her toddler wash day routine to accommodate her beautiful textured tresses.

Wash Day Routine

Mackenzie’s Wash Day

SHAMPOO- The first thing I changed was how I washed Mackenzie’s hair. Prior to her hair growth, I would use Johnson’s Head to Toe Baby Wash and Shampoo. It worked really well at first, but once her curl pattern started to develop I found she needed something more moisturizing. I chose to give the brand Shea Moisture a try since I am already pleased and familiar with their products. We picked up the Raw Shea Chamomile & Argan Oil Baby Wash & Shampoo with Frankincense & Myrrh. I immediately noticed a huge difference in comparison with the shampoo we used to use. This shampoo is thick and rich with certified organic ingredients. I must state, a little goes a long way. After one use, Mackenzie’s hair was full of suds! The shampoo left her hair soft, moisturized and I absolutely love the smell.

LEAVE-IN- After shampooing, I add in a Leave-in conditioner. The leave-in that I absolutely love for her hair is the Tailored Beauty’s Penetrating Leave-in Conditioner. This product contains a premium herbal blend of Gotu Kola Extract and Neem oil. This leave-in makes her hair very soft and makes detangling a breeze. I use my fingers or my Denman Brush to detangle her hair.

OIL- The next step in the wash day process is adding oil. The oil I use, Lustrous Hair Remedy Serum is also from Tailored Beauty. I love how lightweight this oil is. It adds even more shine to her hair

CREAM- Finally, the last step before styling is sealing in the moisture. Tailored Beauty has a product called, The Everything Butter, and it is EVERYTHING! This butter is rich and the consistency is thick, but once you rub it in your hand it melts like butter. You can use this butter on your skin and hair. It gives Mackienzie’s hair the right amount of moisture and defines her beautiful curls.

As you can see, I follow the same moisturizing method that I do for my own natural hair, the L.O.C. Method. This keeps her hair moisturized for days. To refresh I add a little water and a little bit of the Everything Butter by Tailored Beauty.
