I Tried the Hot Head Deep Conditioning Cap |Review on Kinky Natural Hair

by | May 13, 2020 | Natural Hair

I finally was able to try the Thermal Hot Head Deep Conditioning Cap. Deep conditioning has always been something that I have done, even while transitioning from relaxed to natural. I have been on my natural hair journey for 4 years! My fifth year anniversary is approaching this May!!

Ever since my postpartum hair loss setback I have been consistently deep conditioning. I have created a routine that works best for my low porosity, kinky natural hair. I created The Ultimate Guide to Deep Conditioning free resource. I had been deep conditioning wrong for so long that I thought to create an easy guide to help others deep condition . Grab it for free here.

Because I have low porosity hair, it is very important for me to use heat in my deep conditioning routine. Heat increases the absorption of the deep conditioner. I usually sit under a portable soft bonnet dryer. I always have a tough time getting it to stay on my head– sometimes it blows right off! It also is inconvenient because I have to sit stationary for 20 to 30 minutes. I was so excited when Thermal Hair Care sent over their deep conditioning cap. I thought no more cords, no fuss — just healthy hair! Yay!

How the Deep Conditioning Cap Works!

The Thermal Hot Head is a microwaveable deep conditioning cap filled with flaxseeds which generates heat when warmed. They are handmade with quality material and they come in several different reversible stylish patterns.

Construction of the Cap

I have used the deep conditioning cap on several wash days and it still feels like new. The cap itself is handmade and you can tell its has been made with some TLC! The inside of my cap is a pretty pink terry cloth and the outside is a stylish zebra print. I chose this print because it matches my extra-ness! It has some weight to it, but it doesn’t feel too heavy on the head at all!

I love the design of the deep conditioning cap. I can tell that the company values the overall look of the their product. From the packaging to the product, everything is visually appealing.

Price of the Cap:

Ease of Use

Before you apply the deep conditioning cap, you must put on a plastic shower cap completely covering the hair and hairline.

According to thermalhairecare.com you place the Thermal Hot Head on a microwave safe plate (glass or ceramic). Heat for 45 sec in the microwave with elastic facing up. Then flip inside out and heat for an additional 45 sec and then flip it inside out one more additional time and heat for 45 sec.

For additional heat, it is recommended to heat in 20 second increments, but do not go over 3 combined minutes.

I usually deep condition with the cap for 20-30 minutes and it stays heated the whole time. They also recommend to let the hair cool for 5 minutes before rinsing out conditioner.

When I used the cap for my wash days, I had no problems with heat distribution. The cap evenly heated and it was very easy to take out of the microwave (it wasn’t too hot)!

Final Thoughts

I definitely prefer the Thermal Hot Head Deep conditioning cap over my soft bonnet hair dryer any day! There was no fuss, no cords, and no problems. When it comes to the appearance of the cap, I love how stylish the cap is. It is also so easy to use. I was most impressed with the length of time it remained heated. I had no trouble at all during me deep conditioning process! This will definitely be part of my wash day process!
